Branch 900 Curling Teams: Yes we have one and we want more.
Branch 900 has a two-person Stick curling team that plays out of the Penticton Curling Club. We are looking for more individuals or teams to join us in September 2023. The game has a few significant differences from traditional four-person curling. View the rules here https://canadianstickcurling.ca/
The Penticton league is set up so that you don’t have to join as a team. Individuals will be paired up with different partners each week unless they choose to join as a team. Everyone is there to help each other improve and enjoy their game. All curling clubs have some players that use a stick delivery in regular play. The newly sanctioned two-person game now has Provincial and National Championships under the umbrella of Curl Canada. The Canadian Stick curling championship is in Nanaimo from March 30th-April 2nd and yes…our Branch 900 team will be there. How good are we? Well, we may not be a top contender but we are enthusiastic!
Stick curling is also one of the official events in the BC Senior 55+ games. We are encouraging participation in the games and would like to see teams from each BCGREA branch in the province try and qualify for any sport…not just curling! Registration opens soon for Abbotsford in August 2023. The 2024 senior games will be in Salmon Arm (start planning now), and we expect a large contingent from the Okanagan Branches. If you are interested in any of the activities we can organize a “ give it a try” session in our Senior 55+ games zone. Spectators welcome…you don’t have to play, just come for the party and cheer on your fellow BCGREA participants.
